80% of Companies Outsourcing at least Part of HR

Through decades of increased regulation for employers, according to a recent study by Gartner Inc., some 80% of companies are currently outsourcing at least one function that their HR department may have handled previously.

Whether it’s the ACA, ADA, FMLA, or new requirements from the Department of Labor set to begin later this year, many employers have come to realize that they need to outsource some of these tasks.

In an additional study conducted by CFO  Research in connection with Prudential Financial it was found that between 40% to almost one-half of those employers surveyed were either already outsourcing or looking to outsource compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as well as the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family Medical Leave Act ( FMLA) in order to stay within compliance.

The one thing, however, that many companies insist on keeping in-house within their own HHR departments is that of benefits administration.   One reason may be that it is easier for companies to personalize benefits to suit individual employees and their needs. Many have found this makes a better experience for those workers and their families.

For other companies, however, keeping benefits in-house just might not  be the right choice. If  a company doesn’t have the resources, the infrastructure or the expertise necessary in order to be compliant with all of the new regulations or managing the company’s benefits program, outsourcing could be the best option.
